Life Gets In The Way
Hey y’all. I just started a new job that’s taking up most of my time, and the rest of the time I spend taking care of my baby daughter, which leaves me with no time to play WoW or blog. So I’m going on indefinite hiatus. I am currently looking for someone to fill in for me while I’m away. Email me at enzzo@warpets.info if you’re interested.
Take care, and thanks...

Aki the Chosen - Patch 5.2 Edition
The first time I fought Aki the Chosen, I won; my last pet had less than 50 health, but I still won! These days, victory is much more certain, and I can even carry a level 1 pet (as long as it’s not an elemental). Check out how below, and/or in my video strategy guide.
Pets and Abilities to use:
Anubisath Idol (level 25) with Crush, Sandstorm, and Deflection Yellow Moth (level 25) with...

Thundering Pandaren Spirit - Patch 5.2 Edition
Though I’ve already revised my Thundering Pandaren Spirit strategy once already, the latest patch has forced me to revise it again; oddly enough, bringing Fluxfire Feline back into the mix. You can view the updated video guide on Youtube by clicking here, or read it about it below.
Pets and Abilities to use:
Rabbit (Speed>300, level 25) with Flurry, Dodge, and Burrow Fluxfire Feline...

Patch 5.2 Strat Change: Thundering Pandaren Spirit
The only major strategy change to report so far is that Flayer Youngling is no longer able to reliably kill Sludgy, so I bring Fluxfire Feline instead. Coming soon: Major Payne strat!

Elite Battle Pets: Not Worth Farming For XP
The experience gained from defeating an Elite pet is so minimal (297 with Safari Hat on), it’s not worth putting together a 2-pet team to defeat them. Just go for the quick win to complete your (daily) quest :)
Check out my posts on the subject here. I have made a map showing the optimal route to take to defeat each tamer and elite pet in sequence, as well as my initial thoughts on...

Patch 5.2 Drops Today
As I previously mentioned, Patch 5.2, which goes out on live servers today, brings some serious nerfs to Fluxfire Feline, and the Reflection->Deflection nerf impacts Flayer Youngling, another favorite of mine. However, between the time I wrote that and now, they also decided to nerf Anubisath Idol in the following way:
Anubisath Idol: Sandstorm and Deflection have swapped ability positions.

Delveddeep Vs. Seeker Zusshi
Bat really is pretty excellent, I know Reckless Strike seems like a big risk, but it’s a huge hit with little in the way of other downsides, and bite is a solid beast attack for critters. Bat is great for aquatic/critter teams, much like Snarly does excellent with elemental/critter. Usually Snarly kills the elemental and 3/4ths the critter, bring in lowbie for a round, then switch to bat,...
moksu asked: Hello, I just found your site and its looking awesome. only think i where wondering. Do you got some type of "small" list where you name all the pets are needed for the Tamer Strategies. specially doing the routine. Would be alot easier to have them all listed in one place.

Pet Spotlight: Nexus Whelpling
Got a flyer you want dead? Nexus Whelpling’s the pet for you. Not surprisingly, the Breed 4 (P/P) pictured here is my favorite, but he also comes in Breed 8 (P/S) and Breed 10 (P/B). My standard loadout, pictured here, is Tail Sweep, Mana Surge, and Arcane Storm. Mana Surge is the Magic equivalent of Rampage: a 3-turn ability that does a large amount of damage, and has a 3-round cooldown...

Pet Spotlight: Flayer Youngling
Flayer Mignon! Get it? Like filet… Yeah. Moving on.
Despite, or perhaps because of, the impending Reflection nerf, I felt the need to write about this little guy. In case you hadn’t heard, Reflection is being changed to Deflection; instead of turning the enemy’s attack back on him, you simply avoid it. This takes an awesome ability and makes it meh. However, the Flayer...

Pet Spotlight: Emerald Proto-Whelp
The Breed 4 (P/P) Emerald Proto-Whelp pictured here is one of the most powerful pets in the game. I prefer to use all its Emerald abilities: Emerald Bite, Emerald Presence, and Emerald Dream; all of which scale up with power. Emerald Dream is really powerful on its own, but when combined with Emerald Presence, the Emerald Proto-Whelp can normally heal back to full every six turns. Then you can...

Pet Spotlight: Snarly
Rip, Surge, and Blood In The Water: three abilities that spell certain doom for Elementals. The Crocolisk pets are excellent Elemental killers, and Snarly is the best of the four. Blood in the Water does huge Aquatic damage, and with Rip applied, it will never miss. Well, it says it will never miss, but it still does sometimes, and enemy pets can still dodge it. But it almost never misses.

Burning Pandaren Spirit Revisited
Feedback from fans, and my own experience with RNG leading to a number of failures, led me to make a video of an alternate strategy for Burning, one that works even better than using Pandaren Monk, and isn’t as reliant on luck.
Pets and Abilities to use:
Anubisath Idol (level 25) with Crush, Stoneskin, and Sandstorm Emerald Proto-Whelp (level 25) with Emerald Bite, Emerald Presence, and...

Mo'ruk Revisited
After banging my head against Mo’ruk for awhile, a little bird told me there was a better way to defeat him that involves much less head trauma.
Pets and Abilities to use:

Strategy Overview:
Emerald Proto-Whelp kills all the things! Use the...

Patch 5.2 Nerfs Fluxfire Feline and Reflection
The PTR Patch 5.2 put in some big nerfs to several Battle Pet abilities. The Patch Notes have more details, but I’ll hit the high points:
Fluxfire Feline’s Wind-Up has been replaced with a new ability, Flux, which deals damage to the enemy team.
Supercharge now provides a 125% damage bonus, down from 150%, and lasts for 1 round (no cooldown change).
Prowl now lasts for 2 rounds.

Moving!
Hey guys! Sorry for not updating more regularly of late. I’m moving across the country! So I probably won’t be able to update much for the next week or two.
I’ve been meaning to get around to writing a Newbie’s Guide to BattlePets, and I’ll do an expanded one later, but for now, I’ll answer a question I get a lot: Which pets should you start with?

Pet Spotlight: Spirit Crab
You gotta feel bad for these guys. I mean, everybody eats crabs, but do you really consider how they might feel about the situation? Well apparently they got good and pissed off; so much so that they came back from the dead to put a hurtin’ on some murlocs.
Spirit Crab quickly became one of my favorite pets when I noticed that it was an Undead with a fairly powerful Aquatic attack in the...

Pet Spotlight: Lil' Ragnaros
The Firelord. In miniature. Lil’ Ragnaros has the highest attack power of any pet you can get. He also costs $10. If you have some leftover coin, you might want to pick this guy up, because he is fun to play with. Like all elementals, he is amazing against Mechanical pets; even more so because he has the deadly combination of Flamethrower and Conflagrate. I have yet to see a PVE use...

Pet Spotlight: Nexus Whelpling
Amazingly effective against flyers, the Nexus Whelpling is one of the most impressive pets I’ve seen yet. With the devastating combo of Arcane Storm / Mana Surge, this guy is capable of downing any flyer in 3 rounds; then he goes into the next pet with the Dragon bonus active and 1 more round of Mana Surge to go. I use him against almost all tamers that have a flying pet.
Nexus...

Okrut Dragonwaste
With his big scary dragons, Okrut can be quite intimidating, and most tamers are happy to be done with him once they defeat him. However, it can be fun to farm him for xp. Here’s how it’s done.
Tamer Pets and Abilities:
Drogar (Proto-Drake Whelp): 1400 Health, 289 Power, 289 Speed. Flamethrower, Proto-Strike, Ancient Blessing Sleet (Frosty): 1546 Health, 260 Power, 289 Speed....

Pet Spotlight: Cinder Kitten
You may have heard that at the end of 2012, 100% of every $10 adoption fee from Cinder Kittens purchased from the Blizzard Pet Store would be given to the American Red Cross to help with Superstorm Sandy relief efforts. Well, Blizzard recently donated $2.3 million dollars to the Red Cross from said adoption fees. This is the third such charity pet, after the Pandaren Monk which raised $1.1...
Bloodknight Antari
The Grandmaster of Outland seemed pretty challenging at first, but compared to the Pandaria tamers, he’s a pushover. Still, he’s worth doing for the 2k+ xp and chance at a battle-stone. If you forgot where he is, check the map.
Pets and Abilities to use:
Emperor Crab (level 25) with Surge, Renewing Mists, and Whirlpool Mechanical Pandaren Dragonling (level 25) with Breath, Flyby,...
Breeds and Stats
Battle pets have different Breed ID’s, which influence their stats. Warcraftpets.com has a great article about how points are distributed, but here are the basics. Each species has a base point distribution, and the Breed ID determines where its extra points go. There are 3 stats: Health (H), Power (P), and Speed (S). Each point distribution is given a Breed ID in the game, which an...

Elite Battle Pets on the PTR
Wowhead just posted some great new information regarding the upcoming patch 5.2; specifically, new pets to collect and information about the new Elite pets. Click here to check it out.
Here’s a breakdown of the new pets and their abilities, and my initial impressions on how to counter them.
Greyhoof <Calf of Darkness>, Wild Plains, Valley of the Four Winds....

Pet Spotlight: Yellow Moth
Yesterday’s Pet Spotlight was the beginner’s flying pet choice; this is the advanced one. A lowly vendor pet, it starts at green, so you will need a Flawless (Flying) Battle Stone to get it to rare, and you’ll have to take the time to level it from 1 to 25, but it’s definitely worth it in the end.
The Yellow Moth can be purchased from Sixx in the Exodar’s Crystal...

Everybody Must Get Stoned
What pets to use your Battle-Stones On
With Patch 5.1, Blizzard introduced Flawless Battle-Stones. These handy items allow you to change one of your non-rare (green, white, or grey) pets into rare (blue) quality, increasing its stats, and therefore its usefulness. They’re fairly hard to come by; the family-specific ones can appear in the reward bags from the tamer dailies (about 1 in 10...

Delveddeep's Tamer Strategies
Delveddeep sat down with me and shared some of his strategies for defeating the Pandarian pet tamers. The numbers correspond to the ones on my map.

Pet Spotlight: Effervescent Glowfly
A good flyer is an essential pet in many of my strategies, and I often find myself coming back to the Effervescent Glowfly. This is an excellent pet for up-and-coming master tamers to acquire. I added it to my roster early on, and it’s served me well. The best part about these pets is it’s relatively easy to obtain one at level 22 or 23, meaning you don’t have far to go to...

Pet Spotlight: Fluxfire Feline
Today’s Pet Spotlight is the by-now-infamous Fluxfire Feline, whose claim to fame is the incredibly overpowered combo of Supercharge + Wind-Up. Supercharge increases the damage of the next attack by 150%, and Wind-Up takes 2 rounds to perform, but does twice the damage of a normal strike (+10%). The end result is incredibly high damage: In 3 rounds, you can do nearly 6 times the damage...

Pet Spotlight: Emperor Crab
It’s good to be the King. Or, in this case, the Emperor. The breed 4 Emperor Crab, shown here, has the highest attack power of any crab in the game, and since healing scales up with attack power, his heals are the highest as well. Plus, he has this awesome blue color. :) With a versatile ability set including Snap, Surge, Renewing Mists, Healing Wave, Shell Shield, and Whirlpool, crabs...

Thundering Pandaren Spirit - Revisited
The difficulty I’ve had with Thundering Pandaren Spirit lately, coupled with the impending Fluxfire Feline nerf, has compelled me to come up with an alternate strategy, and I’ve made one that works very well. You can view it on Youtube by clicking here, or read it about it below.

Rabbit (Speed>300, level 25) with Flurry, Dodge, and Burrow Flayer...
